Open House Brno Opens Up Fuchs!
To mark the 130th anniversary of the birth of Bohuslav Fuchs, we've prepared a special programme featuring site-specific cultural experiences and an unconventional journey through the majority of this renowned architect’s buildings in Brno. With the project Bohuslav Fuchs: Architect, Husband, Father, we aim to offer a more personal perspective on the life of Bohuslav Fuchs. We'll be opening up buildings that represent key milestones in both his creative career and private life.
Did you know that one of Brno’s Škoda 13T trams has been named after Bohuslav Fuchs? Inside this very tram, while it runs on its regular route, we’ll be presenting a photographic exhibition of 17 of the architect’s buildings—all of which can be found along various Brno tram lines.
You can spot the tram as vehicle no. 1930 via the IDS JMK live tracking system.
And that’s not all. During a special “sightseeing” ride, you’ll have the chance to see all of these buildings at once, accompanied by live commentary. Experience Fuchs’s architecture from the unique perspective of a tram window and discover plenty of fascinating insights along the way.
The special guided ride will take place on Saturday, 26 April 2025, from 1 PM to 3 PM. The journey will start at Tylova and end at Výstaviště – Hlavní vstup, with an additional stop for disembarking at stops Kuldova and Ústřední hřbitov. The tram is being specially dispatched for you by Open House Brno, in cooperation with DPMB (Brno’s public transport operator).
Meeting point: in front of Rezidence Fuchsia (formerly ALPA), Palackého třída 158, Brno – Královo Pole, on Saturday 26 April at 12:45 PM. The maximum capacity of the ride is 130 people due to the space capacity of the tram (there are only 68 seats in the car). Tickets will be available free of charge on site.
As a prelude to the Open House Brno 2025 festival, four live site-specific performances will take place across the city, immersing you in the intimate family circle of Bohuslav Fuchs—a circle filled with fascinating personalities active in the world of Czech architecture and design. You’ll have the chance to meet the architect himself, Bohuslav Fuchs, as well as his wife Drahomíra Fuchsová, his daughter Alena Korvasová, and his son Kamil Fuchs. In a series of short dramatic scenes, members of the Fuchs family will be portrayed by actors from Městské divadlo Brno (Brno City Theatre) drama ensemble. Each performance will be followed by a guided tour of the related building, offering a fresh perspective on Fuchs’s architectural legacy. Through this unique programme, four of his buildings will be opened up in a new light.

As part of the closing ceremony of the Open House Brno 2025 festival, a gala concert will take place on Sunday, May 18th at 5 p.m. in the Alfa passage, performed by the Brno Contemporary Orchestra. It will connect the various functions and meanings of this building, which has received an unprecedented amount of attention in the work of Bohuslav Fuchs since its inception. Join us on a musical journey from Fuchs' vision of a modern public space to Hrdin's concept combining cinema, social and luxury housing and the ambitions of Brno's first skyscraper. The concert, with free admission and no registration required, will symbolically revive the passage, which was designed from the beginning as a place open to everyone.
Bohuslav Fuchs' architectural projects have had a place of honour at the Open House Brno festivals since its first years. We implemented some of the buildings as permanent fixtures for our festival program, and we try to expand their list every year.
This year, we will present to you the following works by this architect:
House of the Lords of Lipá (reconstruction of a historical building)
Reduta Theater (reconstruction of a historical building)
Meat Market
We thank the sponsors and partners of the project, Bohuslav Fuchs: architect, husband and father.
The project is implemented with the financial support of the City of Brno.
The partner of the Gala Concert is the Alfa Palace.
We organise our festival on a non-profit basis,
so we would be happy for any financial contribution.
