The garden of the Arnold Villa is part of a unique landscape ensemble of villas in Černá Pole, whose gardens once formed a single continuous orchard. The plots of the Low-Beer Villa, the Arnold Villa and the Tugendhat Villa were seamlessly connected, as were the Kaiser Villa further to the south and the Giskra Villa to the north.
Today, visitors can once again walk through this landscape and experience the environment that inspired architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe in the creation of his outstanding work.
In recent years, the garden of the Arnold Villa has undergone a sensitive restoration led by Atelier Krejčiříkovi. The intervention builds on the historical principles of garden design in this part of Černá Pole—openness, visual connections across the landscape, and a natural continuity between individual plots without strict boundaries.
Terrain modelling, gravel (marl) paths, and landscape architectural elements have been restored, allowing the space between the villas to once again be perceived as a unified whole. Important visual corridors towards the panorama of Brno, which were essential to the original concept, have also been reinstated.
A 90-minute guided tour takes visitors through the garden of the Arnold Villa and gradually introduces the wider area between the three villas, its history, and its present form.
