Moravia Brewery was established by the Morgenstern brothers at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries and soon became the second largest brewery in Moravia.
The brewery was founded in 1898 on Kotlářská Street in Brno. The brothers merged several breweries: the Královo Pole brewery, the Řečkovice brewery, the historic brewery on Starobrněnská Street, the Jehnice brewery, and the brewery in Rájec. However, the site at the corner of Kotlářská and Štefánikova Streets struggled to adapt to the industrial shift to reinforced-concrete vats in the 1930s. In 1943 it merged with the Starobrno Brewery, which marked the definitive end of the once-renowned Moravia brand. The original brewery complex was completely demolished, leaving only the administrative building of the Morgenstern Palace and part of the former malt house.
Moravia Brewery was revived only in 2016, and since 2017 beer has been brewed once again, now in the district of Medlánky. Today, the Moravia brand produces craft, unfiltered and unpasteurised bottom-fermented beers – traditional Czech lagers. Their production combines state-of-the-art brewing technology with a respect for long-established brewing craftsmanship.
