The Logopedic Primary and Nursery School with a special pedagogical centre operates the most extensive advisory system of its kind in the Czech Republic.

Located on Veslařská street in the forested valley of the Svratka River in Brno’s Jundrov district, the school has a long-standing tradition as a leading methodological and advisory centre. It sees to the education and care of children and pupils with communication disorders.

The founder and organizer of logopedic care in Moravia was the educator and publicist Hubert Synek, who dealt with stammering, mumbling, and non-speaking children. In 1936, he helped establish the first class for "non-verbal" children at a public school in Brno located on what is now Koliště. This class was closed in 1940 but was revived after World War II in 1946 at a girls' school in Jakubská street. In 1949, the Association for the Care of Speech Disorders established a Home for Youth with Speech Impediments in a building on Hlinky street, offering speech therapy to children from across Moravia. The institution was headed by Dr. Ladislav Štejgerle. Later that year, the home was renamed the Institute for Speech Correction and opened a separate new class for pupils from the first to the fifth grade. In 1950, the institute and school moved to the historic Rudolf von Rohrer House, which had been reconstructed by the architect Leopold Bauer. This building allowed students from all over the country to stay for the period needed to address their speech disorders. Over time, further classes were added for older pupils, along with a nursery school, and the institution's name changed to the Logopedic Residential Primary School and Logopedic Residential Nursery School.

In the late 1980s, a satellite branch was created, which later became the separate Nursery and Primary School for Pupils with Speech Disorders for children from Brno. At the beginning of the new millennium, this school merged with the school on Veslařská street to form the Logopedic Nursery and Primary School for Pupils with Speech Disorders, accommodating children from both Brno and throughout the country whose conditions could not be treated through outpatient logopedic care alone. In the 1950s, a special pedagogical centre was established at the school, which, based on examinations, assigned children with diagnoses to special schools. Since 1998, subsidiary advisory centres have been established elsewhere in Moravia in Bystřice pod Hostýnem, Kroměříž, Vyškov, Znojmo, Uherské Hradiště, and Hodonín.

Owing to the insufficient capacity of the primary and nursery school building, construction began in 2004 on an extension designed by the architects Jaroslav Dokoupil and Jana Háyeková from Arch.Design.  The construction of the new building, which includes a swimming pool and gymnasium, was completed in 2006 along with the restoration of the historic Rohrer House, where the Brno branch of the special pedagogical centre is now located. The most recent addition to the school was in 2022, with the construction of an additional floor and outdoor play areas to increase the capacity of the specialist classrooms and facilities.

Since 2000, the school has been managed by the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports of the Czech Republic, with its main goal being to support communication skills and equip children with the knowledge and skills necessary for daily life. The school focuses on providing long-term, intensive, and individual care for children with severe speech and language disorders.
