The Faculty of Chemistry at Brno University of Technology (VUT) is located on Purkyňova Street.
The building, housing the Faculty of Chemistry, the Institute of Forensic Engineering, and the Institute for Lifelong Learning, was built between 1995 and 1998 by architects Helena and Václav Zemánková. It is a conversion of the former Meopta factory, which specialised in producing optical equipment for military purposes. Production ceased in the early 1990s, and the building was acquired by VUT to expand its campus at Pod Palackého vrchem.
The original industrial complex consisted of a high-rise building connected by a two-storey link to a large ground-floor production block. In two phases, it was adapted to serve two faculties. The high-rise was modified for the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Communication (FEKT), while the ground-floor block was transformed into the Faculty of Chemistry facilities through insertions, extensions, and partial additions. The connecting section now houses a shared library with study rooms and lecture halls.
This successful conversion of the former Meopta factory into a university building represents the Faculty of Chemistry at VUT.
