Cukrové nebe is a family-run patisserie and café that recently moved from the grounds of a former monastery to new premises on Orlí Street. It is still located in Brno’s historic city centre. The business combines a minimalist contemporary style with respect for the historic setting and family tradition, creating a unique space that promotes both quality gastronomy and architecture.
The café originally started in a modern building on Úvoz Street, but after a change of ownership and the impact of the pandemic, the owners Iva Spasiuková and Jaroslav Schimmer decided to relocate to the city centre. A significant chapter of their story took place in the complex of the former convent of St Ursula, where they made use of the strong sense of place and the adjoining garden. Their original vision was to create a space where handmade desserts, based on recipes over 100 years old, would be served in an appropriately historic environment.
The current interior is integrated into the historic House at the Stone Virgin, a building that once served as a stable. The courtyard garden evokes an Italian atmosphere, planted with olive trees and lavender, echoing the acclaimed garden from their previous location at the convent.
Most recently, Cukrové nebe moved just two houses away within the same Orlí Street, to Orlí 16. While the former convent complex is awaiting extensive reconstruction, the owners continue to preserve the continuity of their family business and maintain a consistently high standard of both aesthetic and craft quality in their new space.
