Visual Stories 2025

This year, Open House Europe, the association of European cities hosting the festival, is once again announcing the Visual Stories competition. Its aim is to support the festival experience, location visits and additional activities. Last year, we focused on the intergenerational aspect. This year's theme is Future Heritage.

Join us and capture this year’s festival theme. We invite you to share your interpretation of the theme through any art form you prefer!

  • Theme: Artistic works must reflect the 2025 annual theme: Future Legacy.

  • Number of competing works: Each author, whether individual or collective, can compete with one work.

  • Work description: Each work must be provided with the title of the work, the name of the author (collective) and a description in Czech and English.

  • Technique: The competition will include works created using free artistic techniques (photography, collage, drawing, painting, comics, etc.) or audiovisual works, which will be accompanied by a short description.

  • Accepted file formats: . jpg, .jpeg, .png, .gif, .webp, .mp4, .avi, .mov

  • File size limit: 100 MB per file, all uploaded files must be less than 300 MB. Static visual stories: up to 7 photos, collages, drawings, paintings, comics...Moving visual stories: max. 60 seconds

  • Submission of work: The work can be inserted directly into the form at the link: https://openhouseeurope.org/submit-your-visual-story/. In case of technical problems, you can send it to the e-mail address jana.ovcackova@openhousebrno.cz.
    Works inspired by the Open House Brno festival that you have not previously exhibited or published will be accepted. The works must also be created during or in connection with the Open House festival.

  • Deadlines: Send your works by 31.5.2025.

  • Evaluation: The competition works will be evaluated by a jury consisting of the organizing team of the Open House Brno festival. Works that do not meet the competition conditions will be eliminated. The three works that best describe the theme will be awarded. The results of the Open House Brno festival competition will be announced no later than 14. 6. 2025.

  • Prize: The best 3 authors will be awarded with material prizes and their work will be presented as part of the Open House Europe project. Their authors will receive the final prize - a trip to a preferred partner Open House Europe festival in 2026.

Later, the exhibition will travel to other events throughout Europe. The selected works will be further presented in a printed publication and on the Open House Europe website.

At the end of the year, three exceptional visual stories will be selected, whose authors will be invited to the annual conference in Dublin, Ireland or to the preferred partner festival of Open House Europe! *

* Visual stories of all selected participants will be presented in the exhibition and its catalog. Three selected authors from all over Europe will win a trip to the partner festival of Open House Europe. The main prize is from Open House Europe: travel expenses and accommodation for three authors.

Visual stories of artists under 18 years of age will also be exhibited and included in the catalog; however, if they win the trip, they must be accompanied by an adult family member, whose expenses will not be covered.
