The Transfusion Department at St. Anne’s University Hospital carries out immunohaematological tests essential for all patients requiring a blood transfusion for any reason.
This was the first transfusion station in Brno, built in close proximity to the Institute of Pathological Anatomy at St. Anne’s University Hospital. The station was officially opened on 1 June 1949, with Josef Langer becoming its first blood donor that same day. On 3 May 1958, a new building was opened on Žlutý kopec at 12 Tomešova street; since 2002, the Transfusion Department and Blood Bank have been located in the Brno University Hospital complex at 20 Jihlavská street.
Following extensive renovations, the production of transfusion products began on 2 January 2022. Visitors will have the opportunity to see the operations of the immunohaematology laboratory, the blood storage facility, and guided tours will be available through the Donation Centre and transfusion product manufacturing areas. They will learn about the blood donation process, view the blood storage area where transfusion bags are kept, and explore the facilities designated for blood processing.
The Transfusion Department stores and distributes transfusion products essential for haemotherapy within the hospital. On 14 October 2019, a Blood Donation Centre was established here to welcome blood donors.
