The SOS Children’s Village in Brno–Medlánky is the youngest SOS Children’s Village within the organisation SOS Children’s Villages Czech Republic in the Czech Republic. In 2023, it celebrated the 20th anniversary of its establishment. The first foster families moved in in August 2003.
The site comprises ten family houses. Nine of them are rented to foster families with whom the organisation has concluded an agreement on the provision of foster care support services. The tenth house serves as a training centre, where education programmes for foster parents are delivered. When not in use for training, it is also rented out to other supporting organisations or commercial partners. The area further includes additional buildings used by staff responsible for daily operations and activities within the SOS Children’s Village.
In the house at Borůvková 9, distinguished by yellow architectural elements, there are offices for social workers who support foster families, as well as a contact room used for meetings with the children’s biological families. The ground floor of the building also includes a workshop for the site caretaker, and adjacent parking spaces for the Brno “Přístav” vehicle fleet.
The house at Borůvková 7, marked with green elements, contains a clubroom, spaces for tutoring children, and accommodation facilities. The clubroom is used for group and individual activities for children, as well as childcare provision, for example during foster parents’ training sessions. In cooperation with the Faculty of Education of Masaryk University, tutoring is provided based on the needs of foster families. Children thus have access to dedicated spaces designed to provide appropriate facilities for learning and support.
The administrative building at Borůvková 11 includes a barrier-free contact room for meetings between foster families and children with their biological parents, as well as offices for the caretaker, an assistant, and finance department staff.
The ground floor of the building at Borůvková 20 is used for foster parent training. It contains a training room with a kitchenette and sanitary facilities, equipped with a data projector. The upper floor includes one accommodation room and a speech therapy office, which is rented for this purpose.
The SOS Children’s Village also includes three playgrounds: one with play elements for the youngest children, a larger playground with additional equipment and a sandpit, and a sports field intended primarily for ball games.
Accommodation facilities are also available within the complex, primarily used by SOS Children’s Village staff and occasionally offered for rental.
