The former Sibiř Cinema, originally operated by the Czechoslovak Legionnaire Association, was established in 1927 in the adapted premises of a pub. It officially opened in 1928 under the name Sibiř Legion Cinema, later simplified to Sibiř Cinema. The cinema had 147 seats and could also use other spaces within the pub. It was managed by Alois Dostál. In 1931, the cinema was equipped with a sound film projection system. In 1971 it was renamed Kino Dukla and operated under the Brno City Cinema Administration until 1973 when, owing to declining attendance, it was permanently closed.
In the 1990s, the building housed the In Flagranti Theatre and for a time a Czech Television dubbing studio. However, for many years cultural activities ceased, and the city district struggled to find a use for the neglected space.
In August 2013 an initiative entitled Culture against Dilapidation was founded in Brno with the goal of reviving abandoned, deteriorating buildings. Initially an informal collective and later a registered association, the group worked between 2013 and 2016 to secure symbolic leases for various sites, including the former industrial complex on Vlhká street, the Functionalist Zábrdovice Municipal Baths, and properties on Francouzská Street. After several years of negotiations that came close to success, a rental agreement was finally signed in May 2017, marking the beginning of a new chapter in Sibiř’s history. Since then the group has been managing the building, actively revitalizing it by organizing concerts, lectures, workshops, and film screenings, thus contributing to the development of the local cultural scene. Today the Sibiř Cultural and Community Centre functions as a vibrant community centre in the heart of Husovice.
