The Chapel of St Wenceslas is a Neo-Renaissance sacral building that forms a natural urban landmark of Burianovo Square.
The history of religious structures on this site dates back to 1790, when the new inhabitants of the Vinohrádky settlement built a small bell tower on a wooden post. In 1826, it was replaced by a masonry chapel made of unfired bricks. The current form of the chapel dates from 1906, based on a design by local builder Tomáš Němeček, after the original deteriorated structure collapsed in 1903. The construction was initiated by local residents, who organised public fundraising and donated building materials, dedicating the chapel to the Czech patron saint, St Wenceslas.
Before the comprehensive restoration launched in 2017, the building was in poor technical condition, showing signs of decay, with deteriorated plasterwork and unsuitable interior fittings. The restoration successfully addressed these issues and returned the chapel to good condition.
Since its foundation, the chapel has been closely connected to the local community and also recalls the history of the Brno clockmaking company of Josef Tesař, which supplied the clock mechanism for the tower, still functional today. Pastoral care is currently provided by the parish of Brno–Žabovřesky. In 2008 and 2009, the interior was enriched with new sculptures of St John Bosco and Our Lady Help of Christians by sculptor Jiří Netík.
