Reconstructed between 2020 and 2021, the park in the centre of Brno-Řečkovice is located on the site of a former pond. The redesign was carried out by the Landscape Architecture Studio of Zdeněk Sendler and Lýdia Šušlíková.

The site has a long historical connection with water. Řečkovice Square originally featured a pond, whose size changed over time as the water gradually gave way to new uses. The last remaining section of the pond was filled in during the second half of the 20th century, and a park was created in its place, becoming a defining feature of the area. The park’s design is layered and organic, responding to evolving needs. Rainwater is directed by gentle gradients into green areas where it irrigates vegetation and then infiltrates the ground. Water from the parking area is absorbed into a rain garden.

All areas of the square are designed at a single level, including lawns, paths, and paved surfaces. Previously fragmented asphalt areas were replaced by a network of logical pathways surrounded by grassy spaces, which also allow a shortcut to Prumperk following the course of an old stream. A key intervention was the rehabilitation of the area in front of the church, which was expanded to create a dignified forecourt suitable for the spiritual setting, establishing a clear hierarchy of architecture and circulation. Mature old lindens form the core structure of the park, gradually complemented by a more diverse range of species.

The park features a modern playground with a covered seating area, misting zone, drinking fountain, and sand dune. In summer, the shade of the large trees provides a cool retreat. Lawns offer space for picnics, play, and relaxation. A paved forecourt in front of St. Lawrence’s Church allows seating while waiting for services. The project for Palacký Square aimed to respond subtly to contemporary public-space needs, creating a central area worthy of the city district.

A notable feature is a wall decorated by the iconic Brno street artist Timo, while the coloured rubber surface of the playground forms a visual pattern, particularly striking from above. Nearby amenities include a restaurant, café, patisserie, and an ice cream stand.
