Open House Brno for the whole family – your guide to the festival’s accompanying programme for children.

Open House Brno for the whole family – your guide to the festival’s accompanying programme for children.

If you’re planning to enjoy Open House Brno as a family, head out with your kids in the morning to the Nová Zbrojovka complex for an interior design workshop. As you move between locations, collect stamps in your art boxes to turn your festival journey into a playful adventure. In the afternoon, choose based on age and mood: the Franz Kafka Hospital for older, more curious kids, or Screeno for those who like to take something tangible home with them.

Creative Boxes: Collect Stamps Across the Festival

During the festival, creative boxes will be placed at selected locations as interactive stopovers throughout the weekend. You’ll find them at places such as Alfa Passage, the Velodrome, BVV in the Loos Hall, the Office of the Brno City Architect, Urban Centre, Distillery, Mahen Memorial, ICRC FNUSA, the Observatory, and the Info Point. Young visitors can create directly within these inspiring architectural spaces in open buildings.

At several locations, children can try drawing, stamp printing, or playful ways of capturing the place. The main attraction, however, is a collecting game: visitors gather stamps in a special card, which can be found directly in the box or picked up at the festival information centre at Zámečnická 2. Small rewards await those who collect stamps—and can be picked up during the festival weekend at the same information centre.

Franz Kafka Hospital: For Curious Children from 8 Years Old

Saturday, May 16, 15:00 and 17:00
Koliště 43
Advance reservation required. Capacity: 20 participants.

The building of the former Workers’ Accident Insurance Company for Moravia and Silesia has stood on Koliště since the early 20th century, and Franz Kafka may have actually worked there as an insurance clerk. This program, created by SVČ Lužánky in cooperation with Open House Brno, uses this idea as a starting point for an immersive experience that allows children to absorb the atmosphere of this remarkable building—one that has served people in need since its origins, just in different ways over time.

The programme is intended for children aged 8 and older, accompanied by an adult.

Reservation for the 15:00 session is available via fairplay.events.

Interior on Demand: Workshop for Young Designers

Saturday, May 16, 11:00–17:00
Nová Zbrojovka site, park opposite ZET.office

A creative workshop for families with children introduces the world of interior design and spatial planning in a playful way. Children will think about how interior spaces might look, work with various materials, and capture their ideas through drawing or 3D modelling. The result will be imaginative bedrooms, kitchens, living rooms, and entirely original spaces shaped by children’s creativity.

For the youngest participants, a special map of the Nová Zbrojovka site will be prepared, where they can playfully build and create using blocks. Even those too young for the full workshop will have plenty to enjoy. The workshop is led by educator Jana Ovčáčková.
