Kabinet Múz is a key music club in the Czech Republic, renowned well beyond the country’s borders. It is a favourite venue for international artists on European tours and offers a rich programme focused on the alternative arts scene.

The club is housed in the former headquarters of the Mining and Metallurgical Company (later Česká spořitelna), a six-storey corner building designed by architect Karel Lehrmann in 1922. Five years later, the building was purchased by the Savings Bank of the Provincial Capital of Brno. Originally, the ground floor accommodated shops and a café, with one entrance leading to a market space used by organisations such as the Rotary Club. After World War II, the building hosted a record store and the market. Shortly after the Velvet Revolution, the municipal authorities allocated the space to HaDivadlo, which converted the former market in 1991 under a design by Tomáš Rusín and Ivan Wahla from atelier RAW. The theatre opened on 3 May 1991 with the performance Trimalchio’s Feast.

Between 1991 and 2003, HaDivadlo operated here, followed by Divadlo v 7 a půl until 2007. From 2007 to 2012, the space served as a rehearsal venue for the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts. The club reopened to the public in 2012 and has remained an active part of Brno’s cultural life ever since, presenting a programme spanning music, theatre, film, and other arts beyond mainstream culture. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the interior was extensively redesigned and the hall soundproofed. The renovated black-box hall measures 14 × 9 metres and accommodates 230 concert-goers.

Kabinet Múz continues to shape Brno’s cultural scene. By day, it operates as the vegan restaurant Die Küche, recognised with several national culinary awards. In the evenings, it transforms into a bar and club. The venue also launched its own record label, Kabinet Records, promoting mainly local Brno music, from punk and jazz to alternative brass bands.
