The House of Chairs in Brno's Vinohrady district stands out among a row of commercial buildings. It serves as a showroom, gallery, and branch of MY DVA Holding. What was the building’s original purpose, and how did it acquire its new look?

The story begins in Brno’s Vinohrady, one of the last housing estates built in the 1980s. A car showroom was constructed there in the 1990s on the four-lane Žarošická street. Outdated and without aesthetic appeal or practicality, it was reimagined by Chybik + Kristof Architects & Urban Designers as what is now known as the House of Chairs, or GALERIE MY DVA.

This single-storey structure was transformed into a memorable piece of architecture work featuring over 900 black plastic chairs from MY DVA's Vicenza line. They were modified slightly to endure outdoor conditions, such as UV radiation, by using a black outdoor-grade material. The abstract façade serves as both a design feature and an advertisement for the company.

Inside, the space was entirely renovated. The central showroom area, expanded from the original entrance hall, is enclosed by polycarbonate partitions. The floor was finished with white screed, the ceiling was left as exposed concrete, and all new installations were made visible. Three circular galleries were introduced, representing MY DVA’s key production areas: school furniture, office furniture, and designer pieces. Each gallery is marked by full-height white curtains, which can be opened or closed to adapt the space as needed.

Initially, the building primarily served as a furniture showroom and MY DVA branch office. Its purpose has since been expanded to include a gallery. Now, in addition to furniture, it displays paintings, interior accessories, decorations, and other works of art, creating a space where interiors meet artistic expression.
