The International Hotel, built in the early 1960s in Brno’s historic city centre, is a striking example of Brussels-style modernism. Its design was inspired by the contemporary aesthetics of the 1958 Brussels World Expo (EXPO 58), both in its architecture and interior decoration.
Located on a prominent site at the edge of the historic core, the hotel was conceived as a new city landmark, harmonising with the surrounding buildings. The eleven-storey building features elegant interiors, richly decorated with artistic details, and a distinctive visual identity, including its original logo and illuminated signage. Some artworks also remain in the exterior spaces.
The hotel was originally built to provide luxury accommodation for international visitors attending the Brno International Engineering Fair. Although certain interior artworks were removed after the building lost its heritage protection in 2013, many original features both inside and out are still preserved, allowing visitors to experience the unique character of 1960s modernist design in Brno.
