Hotel Cosmopolitan Bobycentrum

Hotel Cosmopolitan Bobycentrum is ideally located on the edge of the historical Brno city centre, near Lužánecký Park and the Tugendhat House. This extensive multifunctional complex, the first of its kind in the country, was erected in the astonishingly short period of one year. 

The hotel was officially opened in 1993. It has nearly 300 beds, a restaurant of the same capacity, and a variety of other dining options, from pubs to pastry shops. The hotel also features a nightclub with 700 seats, a roller-skating rink for 400 visitors, a gym, wellness and fitness centres, a bowling alley and squash courts, and a medical facility. A separate pavilion houses a large shopping centre, combining a spacious retail store with small shops along an inner passage. Beneath it all, there is a single-storey car park. 

The simple volumes, with their smooth, restrained, sometimes undulating walls and unexpectedly small windows, are combined with large glass panels that highlight the important communication areas. Inside, a world of illusion, so unexpected at the time, so intoxicating and alluring, foreshadowed upcoming lifestyle trends. The structure is a monolithic reinforced concrete frame set on Franki piles. The hotel’s façade is formed of hundreds of white ceramic tiles that shine into the surrounding area. An avenue of Japanese zelkovas, planted in 1993, runs along one side of the building.  Beneath them are custom-made red benches. A gushing fountain is located nearby. 

Hotel Cosmopolitan Bobycentrum is sensitively integrated into the structure of the Bobycentrum complex, which also includes the Zoner BobyHall concert hall, where many major social events have been held. The city’s Lužánky swimming stadium, the Botanical Garden, and the arboretum of Mendel University are all located close to the hotel.
