Grand Palace Brno, formerly known as the City Courtyard, is located on Šilingrovo Square, which developed mainly in the second half of the 19th century.

Originally called Svinský trh (Pig Market), the square hosted livestock trade until the mid-19th century. After the city gates and fortifications were removed in 1852, the site was freed for construction. Between 1853 and 1855, the impressive four-winged neo-Renaissance building with an arcaded courtyard was built, designed by Viennese architect Franz Fröhlich. Inspired by grand Renaissance palaces, it combined elegance with modern residential standards.

For many years, the building hosted prestigious apartments and cultural institutions, including lectures of the Natural Science Society and the Museum of the City of Brno. Later it housed a district court, dental clinic, police, and municipal offices. Post-war decline left the building in poor condition.

In 2006, it was sold to a private Spanish investor, who completed a three-year renovation. Since December 2024, it operates as a hotel within the Czech Inn Hotels network.
