The concept of modern housing for students and young professionals by Studio Acht and Vos Interier is the first of its kind in the Czech Republic.
The uniqueness of the building, located in the Ponávka area, lies in the idea of communal living, comfort, modernity, and the variety of accommodation offered to successful young people. The historical zone, once a site of heavy industry and slaughterhouses, is now just a stone’s throw from the centre of Brno, and has been gradually transformed into a green complex, with the banks of the Ponávka stream revitalised. The building organically fits into the developing Ponávka site, a former brownfield that has been undergoing conversion since 2010.
The construction of the first Domeq I was completed in 2017. The building strikes the right balance between sought-after privacy and shared spaces for social collaboration and activity. The ground floor includes communal spaces, a 24-hour reception, and a laundry room, while the highest floor features a terrace with breathtaking views of the city. In 2022, two additional buildings, Domeq II and III, were completed, which go one step further than Domeq I in terms of sustainability, with ecological solutions and a focus on healthy and comfortable living. The Domeq buildings emphasise not only these ecological aspects but also the health and well-being of their residents.
The Domeq complex offers over 400 rooms of various sizes with modern interior design. The Domeq buildings are inspired by Dutch functionality and London’s brutalism, representing an efficient form of housing for young people moving to Brno for work. The Domeq community is made up of tenants from dozens of countries across Europe, Asia, and the Americas. The buildings are designed in the spirit of industrial modernism, with a material combination of glass, concrete, and metal that demonstrates the simplicity and directness of the concept of temporary individual housing. The entire structure is playfully enhanced with ceramic-covered extensions and brightly coloured red window frames.
Visitors will see the communal spaces, the terrace on the 13th floor with panoramic views of Brno, and a show apartment.
