The DEPO building is a former administrative and production complex of the Chemoplast company. The building, dating from the late 1960s, is currently being renovated by Fandament Architects.
At its peak, the factory produced CHEVA toys, such as tabletop football games, as well as plastic components for the Ještěd transmitter. The total usable floor area is 5,500 m², and today it houses around 60 companies, including offices, workshops, storage, and commercial spaces.
In 2018, renovation of the former production hall began to create true industrial-style studios for creative professionals, including architects, graphic designers and photographers. The renovated area on the first floor covers 950 m² and contains six stylish offices. The concrete frame of the building was preserved, the structure insulated, and windows replaced to reduce energy use. Floors were levelled and finished with screed, while mezzanines in the offices use steel frames with wooden decking.
The office furniture and fittings are custom-made in an industrial style. Exposed concrete and black-painted bricks remain visible, and doors and windows were made in a consistent style. Electrical wiring and ventilation remain exposed. The interior combines dark walls, concrete, glossy black surfaces, light floors, glass partitions, and wooden furniture with metal frames.
The goal is to transform the entire complex into a post-industrial, modern low-energy facility, providing an alternative to conventional office parks in Brno. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore the industrial offices and learn about the building’s history, renovation process, and future plans.
