The library of the Faculty of Education at Masaryk University is part of the modern facilities of the Centre for Research Institutes and Doctoral Studies – CVIDOS.
The library is located in the CVIDOS building at Poříčí 31. The origin of the university library dates back to 1947, focusing primarily on academic literature for degree programmes, and later including textbooks for primary and secondary schools. The library was originally located in the basement area of the building at Poříčí 9. An electronic library catalogue was created starting in 1992. In 1995, the library transitioned to a new automated system, allowing it to share a Masaryk University-wide catalogue. That same year, a reading room was opened, used by 200 users daily, offering not only books and journals but also a video library and reproduction facilities.
The construction of CVIDOS, which began in 2012, ensures conditions for the qualified training of young and promising academics and integrates all necessary information resources essential for independent study and the creative development of students. The collection of three operations (reading room, lending service, and a library of Western languages) was merged into one and divided across four floors of the newly created building, which began operations on 16 September 2014.
Modern facilities of the library include computers with Internet access and specialized e-resources, as well as multifunctional reproduction equipment. The library also offers group study rooms, individual study boxes, and relaxation corners. In addition to standard library services, the library provides informational education seminars, searches, interlibrary loan services, and the reservation of library workspaces.
