In March 1995, a suitable plot of land measuring 250 m² was chosen for the mosque’s construction. The land was purchased by the "Foundation for the Establishment and Operation of an Islamic Centre" using funds raised through a public collection made among Muslims. The construction faced opposition from some local residents. The resistance to the mosque was not only technical, as the Muslim community initially believed, but primarily political, religious, and ethnic in nature. After the preliminary design, land-use proceedings were held to determine whether the site was suitable for the purpose of building a mosque. The Brno-Centre Municipal Office set specific conditions: the mosque could not have a minaret or dome and had to blend in with the surrounding buildings.
The mosque was intended to be simple, modest, and bright. It originally included a glass dome, but this idea was abandoned for financial and practical reasons. Instead, the roof features several small, rounded windows. With its columns and arches, the interior reflects Islamic Oriental style. The main entrance is adorned with a green mosaic and an Arabic inscription of the Shahada (the profession of faith). The building is oriented slightly differently from neighbouring structures so as to face Mecca. The mosque's interior is relatively austere compared to mosques in other countries.
The building also serves as a cultural and educational centre, with its main space accommodating prayers for approximately 100 people. The opening of the first Moslem mosque in the country took place in the presence of representatives from the main religious communities in the Czech Republic.
