A view of Brno and its surroundings from the tallest building in the Czech Republic.

The AZ Tower, designed by the architectural studio Burian – Křivinka, became the tallest high-rise building in the Czech Republic with its 30 storeys and a total height of 111 metres. The complex consists of a three-storey multifunctional base (shopping gallery, fitness centre, car service) with two levels of underground parking, and a tower rising above part of the building footprint. It is an environmentally friendly structure designed using the most modern materials. Two cuboid volumes symbolise playfulness and lightness, with broken vertical lines and precise edges.

The reinforced concrete structure of the tower, housing office spaces and apartments, is articulated by a façade break on the eastern side and reaches a height of 109.5 metres. The official height of 111 metres includes the steel structure at the top of the building, while the antenna mounted above reaches 116 metres. The building makes use of geothermal energy, heat accumulation through deep foundation piles, and solar panels installed on the southern façade. The top seven floors contain apartments with unique views.

The “Brno skyscraper”, AZ Tower, was officially opened on 26 June 2013. In April 2014, it received the Building of the Year 2013 award of the South Moravian Region in the category of Best Civic Amenity Building, and in the same year it ranked 9th in the international Emporis Skyscraper Award for buildings over 100 metres tall.
