The Auction House Zezula, established in 2002, built upon the long-standing tradition of gallery sales initiated by its founder, Tomáš Zezula. The company is now based in a Secessionist villa on Hlinky Street.
The brand's history dates back to 1989 in Brno, from where it expanded to Prague in 1996. After the commencement of auction activities, the Prague gallery was handed over to former employees, and all business operations were moved back to Brno. Almost 30 years of successful operation have been marked by record sales in the national market, particularly in the fields of applied arts, antiques, and Asian art. Among the notable achievements of recent years are the results of auctions of Czechoslovakian photography.
In 1905, Franz and Helene Czermak commissioned the construction of a richly detailed Secessionist villa at 142c Hlinky Street. During the first half of the 20th century, the grand villa had several owners, including the Troller family. Hugo and Ella Troller had a passion for art and antiques, and part of their extraordinary collection, which included Gothic and Renaissance artefacts, was displayed within their villa on Hlinky. However, after the Second World War, the family’s estate was nationalised, and the Troller villa was subsequently used for rental accommodation.
