The production building of the Alpa company was constructed shortly after the completion of the better-known administrative building of Alpa on Palackého třída in Brno’s Královo Pole district. It was built in response to the expansion of production within the courtyard part of the Alpa complex, primarily to increase storage capacity.
The building was designed in a similar style to the administrative building by architect Bohuslav Fuchs. This three-storey structure was conceived to best suit the processes of production, storage, and finishing of pharmaceutical products such as Alpa’s famous Frankovka and other goods. The building contains several notable architectural features, including internal load-bearing columns with rounded edges, recessed rounded window reveals, glass-block walls in front of the staircase and lift core, and original window shutters.
Particularly interesting is the street-facing façade, which still includes the original ground-floor vehicle entrance from Dalimilova Street, although it is no longer in use.
After 1948, the Alpa company left the Královo Pole site and relocated to Velké Meziříčí. The building was taken over by the state enterprise Lachema and later by ZPA Brno. In the 1950s, an additional storage building was added on the site of the former loading ramp. This later structure was attached directly to Fuchs’s hall and partially blocks the full view of the original building from within the site.
