The Multicultural Centre Brusinka is located in the inner courtyard of the magnificent Art Nouveau building known as Tivoli, which forms one side of the triangular Konečné Square.
This is a residential building constructed by the renowned architect František Pawlu, sometimes referred to as "Pawlu-Hof," and named after Tivoli, an Italian resort near Rome. The building, called Tivoli, was erected between 1895 and 1911. František Pawlu was one of the most prolific city builders, with around eighty buildings to his name. In the 1990s, the building underwent reconstruction under the supervision of the Brno Heritage Institute, with the restoration techniques designed by the academic painter and restorer Václav Holoubek. The upper attic apartments were also added during this renovation. Currently, the building is owned by the City of Brno.
Tivoli is a monumental three-winged, four-story structure with a central risalit that rises one floor higher than the rest of the building, creating an axis of symmetry. The rich symbolism of the building’s reliefs and sculptural decoration draws on Greek and Roman mythology, ancient mysteries, Christianity, moral teachings, and the attributes of various arts.
Within the courtyard of the Tivoli residential complex lies Multicultural Centre Brusinka, a warm and inclusive community hub in Brno that unites Czech and foreign families. The centre offers a wide range of activities for the local community, children, students, adults, and seniors. As a proud member of the European Network of Cultural Centres, it is dedicated to fostering international relationships and bringing together people from all walks of life. The centre supports international exchanges and aims to build a community for all the residents of Brno.
The vision of Brusinka is to create an open and safe space that encourages mutual understanding and learning between people of various nationalities, cultures, and ethnicities.
